Matthew 7:28 (NIV).
When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching.
Luke 4:31-32 (NIV)
Then he went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and on the Sabbath began to teach the people. They were amazed at his teaching, because his message had authority.
I looked up the word "Amazed" in my electronic version of the Bible and many verses appeared. I was drawn to the verses above and the fact that most of the references to people being "amazed" were when Jesus was teaching his disciples and doing miraculous things like casting out demons etc. etc. etc.
Today, as I was stuck in traffic, my iPhone (on shuffle) played a new song written by Nathan Rowe which I hadn't listened to - from start to finish at least..
It speaks of being amazed by the sacrifice Jesus paid at Calvary, His blood, His grace, His power - His victory.
How can I not be amazed with what was done for me!
When I think about your goodness I'm amazed.
When I think about the price you paid, I don't understand.
When I think about your sacrifice, the blood you shed for me,
I'm amazed Lord that you gave it all for me.
When I think about your goodness I'm amazed.
When I think about the price you paid, I don't understand.
When I think about your sacrifice, the blood you shed for me,
I'm amazed Lord that you gave it all for me.
I'm amazed that you gave it all for me.
I'm amazed Lord by the power of Calvary
I'm amazed by your precious sacrifice
I'm amazed, I'm amazed.
Lord, I don't deserve this gift of grace.
That you sent your only son for me and he took my place,
I cant believe he die for me then rose in victory,
I'm amazed Lord, that you did this all for me.
I'm amazed that you gave it all for me.
I'm amazed Lord by the power of Calvary
I'm amazed by your precious sacrifice
I'm amazed, I'm amazed.
I'm amazed that you gave it all for me.
I'm amazed Lord by the power of Calvary,
I'm amazed by your precious sacrifice,
I'm amazed, I'm amazed.
You are Lord,
Amazing.
Thank you Lord for saving me
You are Lord,
Amazing.
Thank you lord you set me free.
I'm amazed that you gave it all for me,
I'm amazed Lord by the power of Calvary,
I'm amazed by your precious sacrifice,
I'm amazed, I'm amazed.
(Nathan Rowe)
I thought I would add some older words that too reference the fact that "I'm amazed".
I can't help but wonder if verse 2 was sent as another "gentle" reminder for me today!
(see my Blog: New Words - Traditional Tune)
SASB 179
I stand amazed in the presence
Of Jesus the Nazarene,
And wonder how he could love me,
A sinner, condemned. unclean.
Chorus
How marvellous! How wonderful!
And my song shall ever be:
How marvellous! How wonderful
Is my Saviour's love for me!
For me it was in the garden
He prayed: Not my will, but thine;
He had no tears for his own griefs,
But sweat drops of blood for mine.
He took my sins and sorrows,
He made them his very own;
He bore my burden to Calvary.
And suffered and died alone.
When with the ransomed in Glory
His face I at last shall see,
'Twill be my joy through the ages
To sing of his love for me.
Charles Hutchinson Gabriel (1856-1932)
